22.10.-05.01.2021: THE BURG BRENNT! The Landshut disaster of 21.10.1961

In the night from 20. to 21. In October 1961, a fire devastated the castle Trausnitz over Landshut and the state archive Landshut, which was then housed there. The 60th anniversary State Archive Landshut in cooperation with the Bavarian administration of the state castles, gardens and lakes and the volunteer fire brigade Landshut in the exhibition “DIE BURG BRENNT! The Landshuter catastrophe of 21.10.1961” deals with the causes and consequences of the fire.

Exhibition and accompanying catalogue describe the fire and its legal workup. In the flames there were essential cultural goods, fire-causing damages and gaps in unique archives of the State Archives and destroyed equipment and architecture of the "Fürstenbau" Castle of Trausnitz. The efforts of the state archives and the lock administration to remedy the damage continue to this day.

Especially the former artistic design of the castle, which has almost disappeared from the memory of the Landshut population, is recalled by old photographs and a few relics borrowed from the brandy. These include the colourful, fearful room halls from Spätrenaissance and Barock and the magnificent "Absteigquartier" King Ludwigs II from the 1870s.

The Exhibition "DIE BURG BRENNT! The Landshut disaster of 21.10.1961" will be held on 22 October to 5 January 2022 the State Archive Landshut, Schlachthofstr. 10, 84034 Land hat shown. The entrance is free. The current hygiene rules apply to the exhibition visit.

29.11.2019: 10 years Bavarian-Czech Archive Partnership - Festakt im Staatsarchiv Amberg

On 29 November 2019, the ten-year successful partnership of the Bavarian State Archives with Czech archives in the presence of the Minister of State for Science and Art, Bernd Sibler, MdL, and the Director of the Czech Archives Administration PhDr. Jiří Úlovec, celebrated and shared in the future. “A look into our archives reveals how closely Bavaria and the Czech Republic are connected: For centuries we have shared a common cross-border history. The close cooperation of our archives helps to make this valuable cultural heritage even more visible. At the same time, the archives set a clear sign for our partnership exchange and our good neighborhood. “The Bavarian Minister of State for Science and Art Bernd Sibler, MdL, said in his greeting. Ten years ago, the cooperation project “Bayerisch-Tschechisches Netzwerk digital history sources” established the firm cooperation of the Bavarian State Archives with the Pilsen District Archive. As part of the project funded by the European Union, historical sources of the Bavarian-Böhmic border area from Bavarian and Czech archives were digitized and virtually on the own bilingual presentation platform “Portafontium” on the Internet. (http://www.portafontium.de/) brought together. This common platform was significantly expanded with the Czech-Bayerische Archivführer (2013 to 2015). As a bilingual online database, the archive guide is a new access to Bohemica in Bavarian archives and Bavarica in Czech archives. The latest building of the Bavarian-Czech archive collaboration is the project “Modern access to historical sources”. Currently the Bavarica and Bohemica recorded in “Porta fontium” range from the early 11th. century to the recent past. Thus the Czech-Bavarian archival leader presents the tradition of an entire millennium. 19.11.2019: "Naturschutz in Bayern vor 1979 - Actions and actors" - Lehrausstellung im Bayerischer Hauptstaatsarchiv

On Tuesday, 19 November 2019, the small exhibition "Naturschutz in Bayern" will be held in the Bavarian Main State Archive before 1979. Actions and actors’. The exhibition was opened in the course of training in the preparation service 2017/2020 for the entry into the 3rd Qualification level of the field of education and science, specialist focus on archives, at the University of Applied Sciences in Bavaria, elaborated by Andrea Kurzböck. 07.10-04.12.2020: Conference and exhibition "We Ludwig of God's Grace"

From 7 to 9 October 2020, the conference “We Ludwig von Gotts Grace” was held in the University of Augsburg and the State Archive Augsburg. 15.01.2020: Reduction of two medieval documents from the USA - Press discussion on 15th January 2019 in the State Archive Nuremberg

Wednesday, 15. January 2020 (15.00) two documents missing since the end of World War II were returned to the State Archive Nuremberg by the Federal Foreign Office. The two documents from 1418 showed up in the USA in 2019 in the estate of a former US soldier and were able to be returned to Nuremberg by the Federal Foreign Office. In the Second World War, the State Archive Nuremberg held its most valuable collections due to imminent air raids at numerous mountain sites. In total, almost 17 kilometres of archived goods were located in 32 different locations around approx. 80 km around Nuremberg. One of the depots was in the castle Sandsee (now district Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen). There were 137 boxes with late-medieval documents. Immediately after the end of the war, this depot was plundered, more than 70 parchment certificates disappeared. Already in 1987 and 1991, a total of 20 missing documents came from the USA back to Nuremberg. Revolution and Räterepubliken in Bavaria 1918/19

100. Birthday of the Free State presented bavaricon the exciting and dramatic history of its beginnings in a virtual exhibition. Five chronological sections and a level of deepening bring you closer to the Revolutionary Years 1918/19. The focus is on the events in the capital Munich, which were decisive for all Bavaria. In addition, the various developments are included in ten other locations of Altbayerns, Frankens and Schwabens. 90 high-calibre exhibits from archives, libraries and museums show you the decisive changes and changes of this time – with all their breakthrough achievements, but also the problematic accompanying phenomena and consequences. Around 200 archives of Bavarian Jewish communities and rabinates have been held in the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People (CAHJP) held in Jerusalem. These documents are important and widely used sources for all historical research on Jewish history in Bavaria and Germany. The accessibility of stocks via the Internet has therefore long been an urgent wish for local and regional research. On the initiative of the commissioner of the Bavarian State Government for Jewish life and against anti-Semitism, for remembrance work and historical heritage and with generous financial support by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art, these documents have been digitized with the CAHJP since 2023 in a cooperation project of the Bavarian State Archives. The aim is to open a free online access to all documents about the finder database of the Bavarian State Archives. With 30 digitized municipal archives and more than 100,000 digital images, an important milestone is achieved in this major project running until 2028. Most of the 19th Centuries already offer fascinating insights into the diverse history of Judaism in Franken, Schwaben and the Upper Palatinate. The scope of the individual municipal archives is very different. Many stocks consist of only a few files, others of 200, some sometimes even more than 500 archives. The Jewish community of Fürth, one of the oldest and most important Bavarians, forms the most extensive stock with over 1,000 files. Many other documents from the collections of the Bavarian State Archives, which convey Jewish life in Bavaria from the Middle Ages to the present, as well as the impasseous persecution in the time of National Socialism, come to this tradition of the communities themselves. Especially in times when Jewish life is once again threatened in Germany and worldwide, it is important to provide authentic testimonies and documents with low thresholds for historical-political education and cultural mediation. Prof. Dr. Michael Brenner Owner of the Chair of Jewish History and Culture at the Historical Institute of Ludwig Maximilians University Munich (e.g. American University, Washington, D.C.), in his lecture focuses on the importance of the written tradition of the Jewish communities of Bavaria.
