14.3.-4.4.2023: Cannon bells. Bell seizure and restoration in Bavaria 1917–1922

The 14th. March 2023 became the small exhibition “Glocken zu Kanonen. Bell seizure and restoration in Bavaria 1917–1922” opened in the Bavarian Main State Archive. The exhibition was developed as part of the current archiving training for the 3rd level of qualifications at the University of Applied Sciences in Bavaria (HföD).

Bells have shaped our everyday life as a clock generator for centuries. In their ornamental and sound art, they testify not only to the worship of God and the saints, but also to the craftsmen of their founders. In the First World War, about one third of the Bavarian bells were crushed and melted to cover the metal requirements of the armaments industry. Despite these massive losses, the “Glockenland Bayern” succeeded better than other countries of the German Reich to preserve its bell stock as far as possible and in particular to preserve historical bells from destruction.

The exhibition is dedicated to the processes and actors of bell events during the First World War in Bavaria. Finally, the question of state compensation or restoration of bells after the end of the war. The exhibits originate mainly from the collections of the Bavarian Main State Archives, the city archives Augsburg and Rosenheim have provided digitalisate.

08.09.2022: Change at the top of the Bavarian State Archives

The Directorate-General of the Bavarian State Archives is the State Department for all questions of archives. You are following the Bayerische Hauptstaatsarchiv (Munich) and the Staatsarchive Amberg, Augsburg, Bamberg, Coburg, Landshut, Munich, Nuremberg and Würzburg. Dr. Margit Ksoll-Marcon has been at the forefront of the Bavarian archive management since 1 March 2008, so over 14 years was responsible for their skill. During this period she also led the Bavarian Archive School. Their active service period ends on 31 August 2022. Dr. Bernhard Grau worked in various functions in the Bavarian Archive Administration after his lecture on the scientific archivist at the Bavarian Archive School, and since 1 February 2018 he was head of the Bavarian Main State Archives. 100. King Ludwigs III dedicate the Bavarian State Archives to the last Bavarian king Online presentation. Written considerations of the king’s to a European “federation of states” which have not yet been disregarded by research are presented. The unlocking took place on Monday, 11. October 2021 on the occasion of a visit by the Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, Minister of State Dr. Florian Herrmann, MdL, and SKH Herzog Franz von Bayern in the Bavarian Main State Archive. The First World War and the November Revolution in 1918 led to the end of the monarchy in Bavaria. The last Bavarian King Ludwig III fled from Munich on 7 November 1918. He spent the rest of his life at Schloss Wildenwart im Chiemgau, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Hungary. Ludwig III died 76 years on 18th. October 1921 at Nádasdy Castle in Sárvár in Hungary. The state archives of Bavaria preserve diverse testimonies from the life of the last monarch. Some selected special pieces from the Bavarian State Archive, Department III Secret Home Archive and Department V Estates and Collections and State Archive Munich are presented in an online presentation. A first-hand shirt, baptism and birth certificate, will and death-matric entry as well as photos provide an insight into the life-reality of the prince and later monarchs. From research to Ludwig III. a document which was found in his desk in Sárvár after the death of the king has not been honoured. It opens up a new look at the monarchs named “Millibauer” in the Bavarian population due to their passion for agriculture. Ludwig held reflections on the project of a “federation of states” in a volatile pencil. 30.10.2019: Vorlass Barbara Stamm secured for the future in the Bavarian Main State Archive

The Bayerische Hauptstaatsarchiv takes over the written prelude of Barbara Stamm (CSU), which on 29 October is its 75th. celebrated birthday. The well-known national politician worked for more than four decades (1976–2018) as a member of the Bavarian Landtag. She was a State Secretary, Minister of State and Deputy Prime Minister among several Bavarian Prime Minister. She last met as President of the State until 2018. It not only holds the record as one of the longest-served Members in a German parliament, but is also a first-class witness to Bavarian national politics since the times of Franz Josef Strauss. Large parts of the politician's archival decree have already been transferred to the Bavarian Main State Archive. There, the documents are ordered, collected in terms of content and protected in a conservative manner. After the expiry of the protection periods laid down in the Archives Act, the material of research is available as an authentic source. The private writing of the well-known and popular politician includes, in addition to relevant documents, unusually many signatures by citizens, as well as by fellow politicians and companions. This enables the assessment of their political achievements from the perspective of contemporaries. 21.06.2022: More clarity for research. Exchange of archives between the state archives of Bavaria and the archives of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising

In the Directorate-General of the Bavarian State Archives, an important exchange of archives between the Bavarian State Archives and the Archives of the Munich Archdiocese and Freising was carried out yesterday. Director-General Dr. Margit Ksoll-Marcon and archive and library director Prof. Dr. Johannes Merz gave each other symbolically a total of 543 documents, volumes and files, which will be stored in an archive of the opposite side after they had entered the “false” archive by various historical circumstances. Such a exchange is a technically recognized but not very common approach in archives. Two closed file complexes were submitted to the State Archives from the archbishop archive: 1. Documents of the Foundation administration Wasserburg: The foundation administration is a state authority which, from 1807 to 1817, manages assets and accounts for all churches, brotherhoods and other ecclesiastical foundations in the former Pfleg and/or Landgericht Kling perceived. For this they were also available older series of church bills. In total, it is 146 mostly extensive volumes with invoices of the churches in the parishes of Eggstätt, Eiselfing, Evenhausen, Grünthal, Höslwang, Obing and Schnaitsee from 1700-1803, as well as 78 other volumes and files from 1672-1847. The documents were recovered in 1985 by the archdiocese archives of the parish church of Schnaitsee, where they had arrived on an unknown path. Two. Professors of the Zisterzienserkloster Kaisheim (near Donauwörth): The 96 documents from the period 1575-1727 were mostly written by the novices on parchment, which thus completed their entry into the convent community. At the secularization of the Bavarian monasteries in 1803, they were apparently not taken over by the state archives like the rest of the monastery archives and came to the archive of the archbishop by Deutinger (1789-1854) via the collection of the historically highly interested Munich Cathedral Propstes Martin von Deutinger. The documents submitted by the archive of the archdiocese will be stored in the respective competent state archives and there will be gaps in the tradition: the documents of the foundation administration in the state archive of Munich, the Kaisheimer Professkunde in the state archive of Augsburg. From the state side, a variety of individual items were handed over to the archbishop's archive. In the more detailed analysis of the stocks carried out in the Bavarian Main State Archive in recent years, in which the Freisinger Archivals in the 19th They have turned out to be part of spiritual administration. After the secularization of the Freising High Foundation in 1802, the separation between documents of the spiritual administration that remained with the Freising Diocese Administration and today form the altarpiece of the archbishop's archive, and those of the worldly government of the spiritual principality of Freising, which were taken over by the new landlord with the acquisition of its territories, was not always carried out cleanly, which is now corrected by the exchange of archives. 222 archivals of the spiritual government of the Diocese of Freising (officialate, Spiritual Council or Spiritual Government, Generalvikariat) from 1418-1802 went to the archives of the archdiocese with a very diverse subject. They concern, inter alia, synods, visitations, church court proceedings and monasteries in the diocesan area. The documents handed over to the archive of the archbishop will be incorporated into the corresponding directories in the near future, then scanned and provided online in the digital archive of the archbishop for use. The exchange now completed means a substantial simplification for research. He is also a further proof of the long-standing trusted cooperation between the state archives and the archives of the archbishop, which is shown in the participation of ecclesiastical archives in the training of state archivists and in the joint participation in scientific projects.
