The state archives of Bavaria are understood as specialist authorities for all questions of archives. If necessary, they also advise and support non-governmental archive owners in securing and making use of their archived goods, as far as there is a public interest. This offer is aimed at archives of all divisions. Church, economic, media and party archives now have their own infrastructure for mutual support and cooperation. Thus, the focus of state archive maintenance is on the supervision of municipal archives in Bavaria.
Legal basis of municipal archive maintenance
Municipal archive maintenance is in Art. 4, par. 5 and Art. 5 Bavarian Archive Law of 22 December 1989. The details govern a joint announcement of the Bavarian State Ministries of the Interior and for teaching, cult, science and art of 22nd January 1992: "Complete of the Bavarian Archives Act; Local archive maintenance" (CHP I 73).
