German Qualifications Framework Archive (DQR Archive)
In Germany, there are three training institutions for the training of young archivists who Archivschule Marburg – Hochschule für Archivwissenschaft the FH Potsdam and Bavarian Archive School at the Directorate-General of the State Archives of Bavaria. In close cooperation, these three institutions in 2012 to 2022 German Qualifications Framework Archive compiled.
The DQR archive describes - divided into the four categories of knowledge, skills, social competence and self-employment - the qualifications to acquire archivists. Three levels of training are distinguished:
-
Specialist for Media and Information Services Department Archive (level 4 of the DQR), elaborated by UAK FaMI of the VdA and FH Potsdam
-
Bachelor/Diplomarchivarin or Diplomarchivar (FH) (level 6 of the DQR), developed by the Archivschule Marburg, the Bayerische Archivschule and the FH Potsdam
(Real Archive Service; in Bavaria: Third Level of Qualification)
-
Master and Archivreferendariat (level 7 of the DQR), prepared by the Archivschule Marburg, the Bayerische Archivschule and the FH Potsdam
(Höherer Archivdienst; in Bayern: Fourth Level of Qualification)
Despite numerous points of contact with FAMI training, training for the second level of qualification (medium archiving service) was not taken into account.
The DQR archive has been created as part of a European initiative for comparability of qualifications. It follows the model of the German Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning, which is compatible with the European Qualifications Framework.
The DQR archive enables employers to classify educational degrees from abroad into the German system and German graduates can determine which degree from European countries their education is equivalent.
The DQR archive is to be understood as a living document that will be adapted in the future to the dynamically developing task field of the archives.
