The State Archives of Bavaria

  • The state archives offer after prior registration House tours for school classes on. History is to be made tangible and students are to be taught the origin of historical tradition.

  • The original sources stored in the state archives range back to the early Middle Ages and are particularly suitable for teaching in subjects. History, Politics and Society, Latin and French. In addition to the subject-thematic aspects, the work in the archive offers the opportunity to reflect on the basics of historical work and source criticism, also within the framework of Media education.

  • In the state archives individual Teaching sequences are carried out. Students learn the institution Archive know and have the opportunity to Source material to work. As part of the upper secondary school, the W and P seminars the possibility to answer student questions with archive material. In longer-term projects supported by teachers, Exhibitions or Publications are written or designed by the students themselves. Archivists support the definition of topics and the selection of suitable sources.

  • Contact personfor schools and cultural mediators there are in each of the state archives. They are happy to advise and support.

  • Guided tours for school classes are also offered for exhibitions. For great exhibitions archival materials compiled.

  • In 2018, at the initiative of the German National Committee for Civil Protection, the European Year of Cultural Heritage was declared. Europe should be increasingly perceived as a common geographical and cultural homeland. With the help of the financial support of the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art, the Bavarian State Archives contribute to this project with their own contribution. The resulting publication "Our sources - our roots. Archives" can be found free of charge at all state archives and via the Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv, Postfach 221152, 80501 München, Fax (089) 28638-2954, poststelle@bayhsta.bayern.de to be obtained. The contents of the publication and the source examples can be accessed via the following thematic focus.

  • As part of the project "Archive and School", which expired at the end of August 2012, numerous teaching sequences and individual projects were developed by teachers who are available for further use (ISB - Historical Forum Bayern).
