King Ludwig II of Bavaria – Life, Traces, Myth
Ludwig II is still fascinated. No Bavarian ruler is known beyond the borders of his homeland. Declared and clapped as "March King", he draws millions of tourists every year into the castles Herrenchiemsee, Linderhof and Neuschwanstein. He has become an art figure behind which the historical personality almost completely disappears. But who was Ludwig II, and in what time did he live? bavaricon tries an answer in this virtual exhibition. Eleven short chapters and a level of deepening show Ludwig II in the world of 19. Century. 150 digital documents, photographs, paintings, documents and drawings provide information about the life and suffering(s) of the monarch and show you significant changes in the Kingdom of Bavaria. These include treasures of outstanding importance for Bavarian history, such as the Accession Treaty to the German Empire or the "Kaiserbrief" of 1870. Here you can visit the virtual exhibition! The Bavarian State Archive invites you to a virtual tour through its building and a view into its magazines. Birthday and can present a proud record. 100 years and still in growth. 100 years and compared to the age of the preserved archives – the oldest document dates back to 794 (↗ Digitalisat St. Emmeram Urk. 1) – just ungrowing the infancy. 100 years and with the archiving of digital documents before the great challenge of keeping this information readable and comprehensible for generations. At the beginning of 2021, the Bayerische Hauptstaatsarchiv was responsible for 813.362.069 digital information objects in the Digital Archive of the Free State of Bavaria, tending strongly increasing. In addition, there are 4 million analogue archiving units that bridge the distance between Munich and the Tegernsee or to Rosenheim (55 lfd km) and every year the route from the Feldherrnhalle to the Siegestor comes new to paper tradition. Employees are not only responsible for securing the digital and analogue transmission of the Free State of Bavaria: annually, they answer more than 5000 written and approximately the same number of oral requests from citizens and authorities. 01.07.2021: Change of office in the Bamberg State Archive
With effect from 1. July 2021 Archive Director Dr. Klaus Rupprecht is appointed Head of the Bamberg State Archives. He follows archive director Dr. Christian Kruse, who moved to the State Archive Nuremberg as head of May 1, 2021. Dr. Christian Kruse led the Bamberg State Archive from 1 December 2018 to 30 April 2021. He studied history and German at the universities of Erlangen and Vienna for the Magisterium at Gymnasium and received his doctorate in Erlangen with a work on “Franz Friedrich Anton von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld 1750–1806”. After training as a scientific archivist at the Bavarian Archive School in 1988 to 1991, he worked in the Bavarian Main State Archives, in the State Archives Augsburg, Nuremberg and Munich and from 2008 to 2018 in the Directorate-General of the State Archives of Bavaria. Dr. Klaus Rupprecht, a native of Upper Franconia, studied history, anglistics and social studies at the University of Bamberg for the Teaching Office of Gymnasium. He received his doctorate with a dissertation on the topic of “Ritterisches Fürstentruung in Franken. The history of Guttenberg in the late Middle Ages and at the beginning of the early modern period”. 01.05.2021: Change of office in the State Archive Nuremberg
With effect from 1. May 2021 will be archive director Dr. Christian Kruse with simultaneous promotion to Ltd. Archive director appointed as head of the State Archive Nuremberg. He follows Ltd. Archive Director Prof. Dr. Peter Fleischmann, who was appointed 31st January 2021 retired. Prof. Dr. Fleischmann has led the State Archive Nuremberg since 1 December 2012 and returned to the state archive Augsburg and the state archive Munich – in both state archives he had the lead in – to the state archive in which his professional activity began after his training at the Bavarian Archive School. On the occasion of the change of office, Bernd Sibler emphasised: “Archive bridges between our history and the present. Prof. Dr. Fleischmann has built numerous such bridges with his long-standing, dedicated work. With the refurbishment of the State Archives, he also initiated and accompanied a project that will now be one of the tasks waiting for his successor. I am very pleased that with Dr. Christian Kruse we welcome a new archive manager who brings a broad wealth of experience to lead the state archive into the future and thus preserve the memory of our country. ‘ Dr. Christian Kruse, born in Kiel, studied history and German at the universities of Erlangen and Vienna.
